How Do I Deregister?
- All you have to do is write a letter to your child's school telling them you plan to educate your child at home
- The school MUST accept your request provided you take your child out of school completely
- They can refuse if you still want your child to attend school part time
- We provide you the letter template you need to send to your child's school (see student handbook below, page 14)
- This is a valid process for England, however processes in Wales, Scotland & Ireland differ slightly (please see bottom of page for process on Wales, Scotland & Ireland)

Do I Have To Inform The Council?
- Generally you do NOT have a legal obligation to inform your local council as long as you have told your child's school
- The school will then inform the local authority of your child being removed from its admission register
- They will put the reason down as "home education"
- Whilst you don't need to inform the local authority about removing your child, it is sensible to do so
- HOWEVER, if your child has an EHCP you must get approval from your local authority before you can deregister
your child has a choice on what they want to learn
What Should My Child Learn Once Home Educated?
- Your child should learn the basics which are Maths and English
- Beyond that they are free to choose whatever subjects you feel that they may benefit from

- We don't require students to learn a minimum number of subjects with us, just whatever they are passionate and motivated to learn 🙂
your child can get gcses and even a-levels all from home!
Can My Child Still Get GCSEs?
- Yes they can! Most home educating families enrol for the IGCSEs which are the same as GCSEs but without the coursework elements
- We teach all of our main core subjects according to the Edexcel IGCSE syllabus
- Your child can start to do their A-Levels once they have achieved their IGCSEs

How Do I Know My Child Is Ready for Exams?
- We regularly assess students during and at the end of each topic to ensure they understand the content
- We regularly cover exam style questions to ensure they are well prepared and can battle exam-anxiety
- We will then share our recommendations to you if we feel your child is ready to sit their exams

What Do I Do About Sitting The Exams?
- We will help you to find the nearest test centre for when it comes time to sitting your child's IGCSEs
- You will have to pay for these separately
- You can sit these twice a year and we will advise you on when the best time to sit these will be
- Your child can also sit these exams early, late or whenever they are ready
- Your child can also take learning at their own pace and learn 1 or 2 IGCSEs per year if you wish

What Do I Do About Deregistering in Wales, Scotland or Ireland?
- Wales & Ireland: The process is the same as for England (above) but you must engage with your local authority and let them know

Scotland: You must first reach out to your local authority and let them know of your plans and how you plan to support your child when not in school
The local authority should respond within 6 weeks can't unreasonable withhold consent but it may do in extreme cases such as if a child is on the Child Protection Register
