Private One-to-One Lesson Guidelines

This policy outlines the expectations for parents, students, and teachers regarding private one-to-one lessons. It includes the scope of services, the responsibilities of all parties, and important terms around cancellations, internet issues, and refunds.

1. Honouring Scheduled Lesson Times

The scheduled time for private lessons will be strictly adhered to by both the teacher and the student.

It is important for both the teacher and student to arrive on time. Teachers will wait up to 10 minutes if the student is late, but the lesson will still end at the originally scheduled time.

2. Lesson Content

The lesson will be tailored to the student’s individual needs, focusing on agreed-upon goals. This may include academic support, skills development, or other personal learning objectives.

Teachers will provide a summary of the lesson at the end, including key takeaways and recommendations for improvement.

Teachers are not expected to cover topics beyond the planned curriculum unless agreed upon in advance.

3. Cancellations and Rescheduling

Student-Initiated: Cancellations or rescheduling requests must be made at least 24 hours in advance. Failure to do so may result in a forfeited lesson with no refund.

Teacher-Initiated: If a teacher needs to cancel or reschedule, they will notify the parent/student as soon as possible, and the lesson will be rescheduled at a mutually convenient time.

Exceptional Circumstances:  In cases of illness or emergency (both student and teacher), cancellations may be accepted at shorter notice without penalty.

4. Refunds

Refunds will be offered only under the following conditions:

○ The lesson is cancelled by the teacher without an option to reschedule.

○ Technical issues on the teacher’s side prevent the lesson from occurring.

○ Refunds will not be issued for missed lessons due to a student’s late attendance, failure to cancel on time, or personal technical issues.

5. Internet Connection and Technical Issues:

Teacher-Side Issues: If technical problems arise on the teacher’s side, the lesson will either be rescheduled or a partial refund offered if the lesson could not be completed.

Student-Side Issues: If the student faces connection issues, the lesson will still end at the originally scheduled time. Rescheduling may be considered if issues persist, at the teacher’s discretion. The teacher will remain present throughout the time and end the lesson at the originally intended time.

It is recommended that both parties test their internet connection and devices before the start of each lesson to avoid disruptions.

6. Student Conduct

Students are expected to participate respectfully during the lesson and follow the instructions of the teacher.

Inappropriate behaviour may result in the termination of the lesson, and no refund will be offered in such cases.

7. Parental Involvement

Parents are encouraged to be aware of the lesson content but should allow the teacher to lead the session unless prior involvement has been agreed upon.

For younger students, a parent or guardian may be asked to be present during the lesson to ensure engagement and support.

8. Feedback and Reporting

Teachers will provide regular updates to parents on the student’s progress.

Any concerns or areas for improvement will be communicated, and parents are encouraged to share feedback with the teacher to ensure the student’s needs are being met.

9. Rescheduling Limits

Each private lesson can only be rescheduled twice. Beyond this, the lesson will be considered forfeited unless under exceptional circumstances.

10. Communication

All communication regarding scheduling, cancellations, and lesson feedback should occur through the designated communication platform (email, school portal, etc.) to ensure clarity and record-keeping.
